19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy after the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and regular outbursts on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

He defended 4 early-game chances in a close deciding set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
